New Tools… New Hope…

Is stress affecting your effectiveness, relationships and health? Do you want to find more effective ways to support your health and help others manage chronic stress and traumatic experiences?

Since stress and trauma reside in, and manifest through, the body’s physiology, trauma researchers such as Bessel van der Kolk, MD, and Bruce Perry, MD, recommend body-based interventions like yoga, mindful movement and other forms of body awareness to release stress, regulate the nervous system, and develop a sense of safety and control.

Contributing to this exciting new field is Dr. David Berceli’s Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE). Developed from over 20 years of experience supporting victims of abuse, natural disaster, and war, this revolutionary approach helps to release tension and the neurological imprint of trauma from the core of the body by evoking an innate, therapeutic response — self-controlled muscular shaking.

What’s TRE?

Have you ever noticed your body shaking in response to a stressful situation or seen a child shaking their legs back and forth when nervous? That shaking is called neurogenic tremoring — an innate release system that nearly all mammals are born with and that is an important component in how the body handles stress.

Recognizing that shaking is a normal, healthy response to release tension, TRE mobilizes it through six yoga‐like exercise. The process is unique in that this shaking originates deep in the core of the body, with gentle waves of movement that reverberate outward along the spine, releasing tension from the sacrum to the cranium. The exercises are a simple form of stretching and are used to gently start these voluntary muscle releases.

Anyone, Anywhere

TRE can be done by anyone, in any setting, to release the stress or tension that accumulates from everyday life, difficult situations, immediate or prolonged stressful situations, or past traumatic life experiences (e.g., natural disasters, social or domestic violence).

Currently being researched by the Veteran’s Administration, TRE is being used worldwide for individual health support and by therapists, counselors and human service providers as a low-cost complement to cognitive and behavior-based therapies. They report that TRE decreases anxiety, emotional reactivity, physical pain and hypervigilance, and improves resilience to stress.

This training is particularly useful for counselors, clinicians, massage therapists, social service workers, parents, foster/adoptive parents, coaches, or anyone working with populations affected by stress and trauma.

Though registrants often join us from around the world, the training is designed for the English-speaking general public and anyone interested in leading TRE sessions as a Certified Provider.

Learning to manage our stress and regulate our nervous system is fundamental to helping others develop their self-regulatory capacities, positive attachment and social/emotional competencies. Therefore, learning TRE as a self-care strategy is the overarching goal of this training.

In addition, this training is part of a certification series for those interested in becoming certified to lead others in TRE.

What else you will gain from this training:

  • Insight into how shaking and flight, flight and freeze reactions are “intelligent“ physiological responses to stress and how to work with them
  • How to develop your personal TRE practice and firsthand experience on how TRE works to help manage stress, tension, trauma and post-trauma reactions
  • A basic understanding of the physiology of stress and trauma from leading theorists, including an introduction to Stephen Porges’ Polyvagal Theory and the power of the “social engagement nervous system” to mitigate the stress response
  • How TRE can support the recovery from childhood/complex trauma and free access to Lynea’s Empower Nervous System Education program for children (a $60 value)

Most importantly, you’ll gain skills to help you manage your own stress, trauma and post-trauma reactions from personal and professional experiences — benefiting your work, your relationships, and your well-being.

Live Online Learning

Recognizing the vast need for TRE and its worldwide potential, we worked with TFA (TRE’s governing body) and TRE’s founder, Dr. David Bercelli, in 2020  to develop and pilot TRE’s first online certification courses. That way anyone anywhere can be trained and certified to become a TRE Provider.

Our team has many years of experience with online training, having developed and delivered university-accredited professional development and certification courses to thousands of students in over 22 countries. By learning in the privacy of your own home we can mirror and in many ways exceed what you would receive in an in-person training.

Bonus!  Video Sessions with Dr Berceli

Dr. David BerceliWhile Dr Berceli is now retired, we are honored that he allowed us to record and provide his lectures as enrichment for our trainings. These 14 recordings include his insights into the art and science of this practice.

In addition to providing you with a powerful training experience from the founder of TRE, these videos will also be made available to you after the training so that you may review, refresh and deepen your understanding of TRE.

TRE Certification

You need not be planning on becoming a Certified TRE provider to take this Module 1 training and can just take this training for personal benefit.

For those working toward certification, in addition to this Module 1 training, there are two other two-day trainings as well as supervision sessions required to become a Certified TRE Provider. If you plan on working toward Certification, make sure you mark these dates:  Module 2  on January 10-11 and Module 3 on April 12-13, 2026. (Other Module 2 and 3 trainings will also be available in 2026.)  All upcoming training dates are available under the TRE section of our Calendar.

Please review Certification Requirements & Costs here.
